West Yas is an Aldar villa community on the western side of Yas Island, facing back towards Al Raha Beach and the airport. It was built as a family neighbourhood: four and five bedroom villas with private gardens, a community centre with shops and cafes, West Yas Academy for the school run, a mosque and a series of parks and play areas threaded between the streets. The entrance is gated with security, and the whole community is a short drive from Yas Mall, Yas Marina Circuit and Yas Beach.
These are big homes, and they are cleaned differently from a city apartment. A West Yas villa has an open plan kitchen, a majlis, a maid's room, several bathrooms and a garden that feeds sand straight into the ground floor every time the sliding doors open. Tall windows and double height spaces collect dust on the frames, and the stone and porcelain floors show every footprint.
